Hi everyone.

My name is Patrice Williams and I live in Winston-Salem, NC. I learned Spanish in school, but have traveled to 3 different countries. My goal is to get to all of the Spanish-speaking countries in my lifetime. When I did my exit interview for ECU, one of the professors asked if I was native to Argentina. I consider that the biggest compliment I ever received. :) I currently teach high school Spanish, levels 1-2. My favorite level to teach is 3 because we delve into the wide world of por vs. para and the subjunctive. I’m such a Spanish geek! :) I have traveled to Nicaragua on a 9 day mission trip where we did a VBS for the kids (very fun), to Argentina with my university adviser for two weeks (Me encanta la Argentina, Qué bonita) and to Riviera Maya, Mexico for my honeymoon. (Does that even count?) I loved all three countries, although riding in a car at times was VERY scary. The traffic “laws” are very different and maybe more “suggestions” than actual mandates. I would just lie down in the backseat and close my eyes. :)

I joined Edufire because I love Spanish and love sharing it with people who actually WANT to learn it. Sometimes it’s like pulling teeth with my highschoolers. Some day they’ll understand. Quizás. I’m currently 6 months pregnant with a baby boy (my 1st kiddo) due May 10th. A big attraction to Edufire is the ability to tutor and work from home, so I can be home with my little man. I LOVE to work and most of the time, really enjoy teaching, but the idea of putting him in daycare for 10 hours a day makes me a little sick to my stomach. I’m sure any of you mommies understand that.

An unexpected perk has been communication with all you cool folks and discussing the diversity of our backgrounds and languages. Very exciting… Again with the being a Spanish geek thing.

I better go… papers to grade, lessons to plan, lives to change etc. :) Hope all of you are having a blessed day.

Hello, Patrice,

Good luck with your pregnancy and your labor day, not the one where you have to return to school. It was very enjoyable to hear about your life so far. I understand the POR and Para thing. The subjunctive mood is another thing to ponder. It really is fun to speak languages like Spanish!

Welcome Patrice! I think stay at home Moms are gonna love eduFire (and we’ll love them back!). I recently read a stat that said that 51% of Moms are now choosing to stay @ home and opportunities to make money while doing so through selling stuff on places like eBay and Etsy have no doubt played a big role in that. eBay/Etsy/etc are great for people who are passionate about selling stuff but what if you’re passionate about teaching? That’s where we come in. We’d love to make it possible/easy for Moms to make a really good living from the comfort of their home teaching stuff they love to people in need of learning it.

Sounds pretty good to me. :)
