Hi everyone!

My name is Jared and since January of 2008, I’ve been one of the developers here at eduFire. We’re working full throttle here to bring all of you the latest and greatest features in online education; changing the world and having a blast while we’re doing it.

You might find it interesting to know a little about what paths brought us here, the elevator pitch version of my story is pretty simple. I’ve held a variety of technical jobs in both the public and private sector, including non-profit associations and local government, but my passion is application development. I’m particularly excited about building small, functional applications that do a small number of things exceptionally well.

Education Revolution has offered me a great opportunity to work with a team of dedicated and talented professionals whose areas of expertise spans from hardcore back-end systems engineering to customer-focused interface design.

So far I find the site to be impeccably designed and smooth and blazing fast in terms of functionality. I love it.

Jared, the site looks great so far. I logged into the main page and then had to login again at the forums. Not sure if i did something wrong there :) Keep up the good work.

Hey Ryan. I saw that tonight as well and filed it as a bug. We’ll probably have a few of them in the early days. :) But definitely post anything you guys notice here in the forum so we can get to work on fixing them right away.

Hey guys. Great work with the site. Really like it. Inviting fonts. Easy on the eyes. Simple. Friendly. Fast.

Some problems and suggestion:
1. I too had to log on again for the forums.
2. The reply box for posting a message in the forums is somewhat “transparent” except the the very inner box in which you type; No text is “active” under “formatting help”
3. Would it be a good idea to accompany each person’s profile picture as displayed on the forum with the languages that they teach so that others can identify that immediately just like they can tell how many posts the person has written?

Louis, those are great suggestions, thanks!

Guys, great to see the site up and running. I’m impressed with how much has happened since I last saw it in its development stage only a little over two months ago! I’m also excited to brush up on my Spanish, for that work/play stint to Argentina and other places.

Hey guys,

Was thinking:

Will it be possible one day to video chat with the other tutors without incurring any costs? Will we be able to have a group chat? One of the many ways it might be useful is having several of the teachers from a particular language come together in a group to speak in that language. But you’d have to think of the possibility of a student signing up as a teacher and then getting free conversations with the teachers, I don’t know how you would react to that. :-)

And quick other suggestion:

How about automatically bringing the cursor directly to the “username/e-mail address” box in the sign-in page so you don’t have to click in it to write your e-mail address?

Suggestion #1 – It’s a good idea Louis. Right now we’re pretty focused on making sure the teacher-student sessions go smoothly. But we’re definitely open to the possibility of allowing our tool to be used for other things as well.

Suggestion #2 – Good idea. I’ve filed that as a bug.

This site is a marvel. I am gitty at thinking about what will be built here in the months and years to come with such a solid foundation of well- very creative and intelligent minds. ;)

Ditto to what everyone else said- love the fonts, the layout, and how easy on the eyes it is. Bravo!

Thanks buddy. It’s great to hear that. It’s awesome to be working with such an amazing team and to be executing on our vision of bringing teachers and students together from around the world. Kareem + Saha get the vast majority of the credit for how good the site looks. I’ve never worked before with guys with such talent for asthetics. :) Anyway, thanks for the feedback…really awesome to get that!
