I was in the process of creating a paid class and noticed a new option that says SuperPass. I read the blog post on it but it still makes no sense to me.

If my class is SuperPass enrolled, what happens? Also it if you could explain tutor payment with SuperPass, that would be lovely!

The only thing that comes to mind (and Jon you’ve probably figured a business plan around it): Let’s say you have 1 subscriber who takes classes with 10 teachers, and each teacher gets $3.41(for June), eduFire would be at a loss of $5.10.

That’s assuming that they only do one session with each teacher.

It’s true :) That’s why the Revenue Per Student changes from month to month. Some people will take many classes, and some won’t take as many classes, and like we’ve said before, the amount of lessons may be capped in the future if we see people taking a ton of classes (though early adopters will be able to continue with unlimited classes despite this).

It’s kind of like Netflix in that way. Some people rent 30 movies a month. Netflix loses some money on those people. Some people (like me!) don’t churn their movies quite so fast and Netflix likes those people. :) Overall, it evens out and Netflix, its customers and the movie studios all win. We’re shooting for the same thing here. :)

I love the idea, its Great. Hopefully Netflix (eduFire) and the studios (tutors) win. My favorite thing is that people who have a hard time getting their name out there have a chance.

ok, I have had my first superpass class…. and both students had subbscribed to superpass. My question is, if the other classes I’ll teach them this month will be with superpass, I will get the same payment for June?
My problem is….these people are mainly lookin for classes I teach but now that they have subscribed to superpass they will expect all my classes to be with superpass. I prefer my students to choose me for how I teach rather than for the fact that I offer superpass at this point, also because if they were ten students it will make a difference, but not with 2 students…. I’m confused!

Hi Marged.

You’ll get paid per attending student per class they take. For SuperPass subscribers you’ll be paid monthly (check your ‘My eduFire’ page). Whether you decide to make all your classes SuperPass or not is, of course, your choice. It really depends on how much you want to charge per seat against how much you receive from attending SuperPass students.

This is not clear to me…. I wanted to start a regular course but if all the students interested have superpass I’m not sure they will register if I don’t make the course with Superpass….

My doubt is, now people are subscribing to my classes because they are with superpass, will they attend non-Superpass classes with me? I had the impression that some students think that once you offer a superpass class all your classes will be with superpass….

You get paid per class session. So if a student took two class sessions with you in a month you would be paid $7.02 for that student that month.

As for whether people will attend non-SuperPass classes, I’m sure they will. I think most SuperPass subscribers will look primarily for classes that are free with their subscription. However, I think that some of them will also purchase a la carte classes. And of course people who aren’t SuperPass subscribers will also purchase a la carte as well.

We’ve tried to make this as flexible as possible. As always, love to hear your feedback!

This is something I’ve been considering, too. Especially if I begin to teach drawing and painting classes. These things take a lot of time and effort to put in the teaching and the results, and with the Superpass I might get paid a little amount for all that time. Will students start to reject non-Superpass paid classes?

Good question Laura…. unfortunately I’m afraid you won’t get an answer right away…. only time will tell you whether students will expect all classes to be super-classes or not….

How I see it, anyways, is that although you get paid less per superpass student in your class, as things ramp up and more and more people subscribe, you’ll also see more people in your classes. I know I’m really excited, because it’ll be easy to pick up 10-20-30 students, and make much more than getting a few students at $5 / $10 each. Maybe not today, maybe not next week, but there’ll be a point fairly soon where we’ll be making much more and it’ll be easy to get people in your classes.

Imagine the day you get 100 people in a class…. mmm $351.00 an hour sounds good to me :)

Well, I’ve set my free class to superpass, and I’ve already seen a huge drop in enrollment. Superpass is NOT free, and unfortunately most people got used to the FREE classes.
So, it would take a while.

Koichi! Not everybody wants 100 people in a class. There’s no interaction there.
For my language classes, 3 – 6 is the ideal. 15 would be BIG.

I’m like Enrique when it comes to classes: the ideal number of students for me is 4-6…. therefore Superpass classes aren’t an option for me…. these will bring income to the ones who hold large classes…. I guess the culture will go from FREE to SUPERPASS…. so maybe one day people will get used to the idea of PAID classes…. it’s called evolution (although quite a slow process)! :P

Yeah, I think comparing free class attendance to SuperPass class attendance is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Stuff that’s free on the Internet will always be more popular. However, I think you can compare SuperPass class attendance to paid class attendance and what we’re seeing already, even though it’s very early, is that there are more students in SuperPass classes than in paid classes where SuperPass is not an option. Obviously, there’s a trade-off here, if you think you can charge a lot for paid classes and fill them up than SuperPass for that class may not make a lot of sense. However, we think that for most classes SuperPass is a great option and will lead to a better experience for both the teacher and the student.

Yeah, I agree with you guys. If you want to run small classes then SuperPass may not work for you. That’s why we’re not forcing anyone’s hand with this. Do SuperPass for all, some or none of your classes. That’s entirely up to you.
